6/7M's Book of Awesome

Inspired by the hilarious writing of Neil Pasricha, author of the Award Winning "Book of Awesome", students of 6/7M craft their own version of what they think is awesome.

Finding a Penny on the Street

When you see a penny all muddy and wet, your heart starts racing. You pick it up and bring it home and run to the bathroom to wash the penny off and knowing "I'm 1 cent richer. Yes!"

Sticking Your Head out the Car Window

Don't you just love when you're mom is driving and you stick your head out the window in your car. You get wind in your face, you can barely breathe and you get a few flies in your mouth. Then, when a truck goes by and you pull your head back into the car really quick so your head does not come off.

Re-reading the Awesome

Have you ever had that moment when you're reading the most greatest book you ever read, even though you've read it over 3 times. It's like sitting in the sun on the beach and doing something awesome.

Grocery Jam

You know the feeling you get when you go in the grocery store and you hear your favourite song? You start jamming out to it and dancing like you're crazy and you don't care what people think.

Thinking You Have School Tomorrow, But Realizing You Have a P.A. Day Instead

Remember those days when you're walking miserably to your bed because you think you have school the next day? You think about all the reading and writing you'll have to do. But, suddenly your eyes flash open, you run as as fast as a chicken who's lost its eggs, to go check the calendar and then realizing that tomorrow's a P.A. Day.

Your Brother

Did you know the best thing to do on a very extremely cold day? Locking your brother outside and teasing him through the window.

The Beach

You know those days when you wake up in the morning, run to your parents' room and beg them to go to the beach. Once you feel the soft, hot sand on your feet, you know it's time to party, go for a swim and relax.

Ice Cream Truck

Do you want to know what's boring? Sitting on the couch all day! Suddenly, you hear the sound of that the ice cream truck music and you just need to beg your mom and dad for money to get some ice cream.

Saturday

Nothing is better than a Saturday. Just chillin, sleeping in and no school. You don't have to think about those hard math questions you've got to do, just think of sleeping in.

Awesome!

Math Buddies

A couple of times a month, our Grade 6's and 7's pair up with students from Mrs. Leroux's Grade 3 class to do math buddies. During this time, students work collaboratively on new and familiar math strategies to solve a problem. At the end we consolidate our thinking by sharing our before, during and after strategies.

That's Shocking!

Our current science unit in Grade 6 is electricity.

Here are some photos of our Grade 6's having fun making circuits. Enjoy!

Intro to VIP

It's time once again for VIP! We've recently started our Values, Influences, and Peers program in our class. Our officer is Neil McEachrane who has is a Special Services officer for the Windsor Police. This year we will learn about making good choices, walking away from difficult situations and drug safety.

In our introductory lesson, Officer Neil talked about the tools that keep officers safe. Afterwards, the students had an opportunity to ask a plethora of questions about policing.

Thanks for coming officer Neil!

Taking Flight

Here are some photos from our Grade 6 unit on Flight. During our unit we made paper airplanes, helicopters and parachutes. We tested out the principles of flight and learned how to control the forces that affect flying machines. Our unit task was to build and test a flier that could safely carry an egg over a distance without cracking.

Flying is Fun!!!

Congratulations to Brayden and Moe who had the top 2 flying machines. Each was awarded a $10 gift card from Chapters.

Camp Henry

In October, the Grade 7's went to visit Camp Henry at Point Pelee National Park. The Grade 7's learned about nature, respecting the environment and biodiversity.

Activities included:

Hiking to the Point
Hiking Trails
Cooperative Games
Beach Art
Campfire Songs

Thanks to all of our Grade 7 Tigers for being mature leaders and for all the teachers who supervised. What a great time!
