Friendly Letters

Last week, the Grade 6 and Grade 7's learned how to write friendly letters, using figurative language, transition words and conjunctives. The voice of the letter had to fit the audience.

Here are a few sample letters:

Dear Mr. McNeil,

YOU SHOULD'VE SEEN HOW MUCH FUN I HAD IN U.A.E.! I went swimming, played on my Wii U, stared at the biggest tower in the world, the Burj Khalifa and much more! And the weather...MAN! It was as hot as a pepper! It was over 50 degrees C! And, I had to fast in that temperature. When we were done fasting, we celebrated our favourite celebration, Eid! I earned money, opened my new console and went to a hotel!

After a few days, we went to the Dubai Mall! They gave us samples of perfumes, ate lunch and admired the aquarium! After that, we went outside sipping tea and watching the Water Show. Finally, we went back home and went to sleep.

I hope I can show you the pics I took there!

Your student,

Tariq

Dear Mr. Matt Cruse,

How have you been?! I am writing to you so I can congratulate you on getting on Star Climber. It is astounding ship, yes? I hope the food they will be feeding you is better than anything these numskulls are making. Imbeciles! They don't know how to make a decent plate of food. I am still working in the restaurant you last saw me at, and the food these hooligans make is as sickening as a puking molerat.

Let me tell you my boy, when I saw your name in the newspaper saying that you were going on Star Climber, I was happy as a frog with a million flies.

I have to go, I don't know what these numskulls just blew up!!!

Write back soon! Sincerely,

Chef Vlad

Dear Tariq,

How are you doing buddy? Me, not so well. I feel like an animal getting woken up in the middle of hibernation. I got the stomach flu! I kept sleeping until noon. Fortunately, I had a boiling, tasty, scrumptious bowl of soup; it was the only thing I had all day!

How was school while I was gone? Did I miss anything important? Homework? A new assignment? I hope I didn't because I'll be like a turtle behind a cheetah in class and that won't be good.

Wishing I get better, yet having time off is cool. See ya tomorrow!

Your friend,
Moe
